Tuck Everlasting-Natalie Babbitt

In the year 1880, ten-year-old Winnie Foster gets lost in the woods in an attempt to run away from her high-class family. There she meets the Tuck family, Angus Tuck, Mae Tuck, and their two sons Miles and Jesse. The Tucks have a dangerous secret: they drank from a magic spring in the woods and now can’t ever age or die. Frightened, the Tucks kidnap her and take her back to their home. They tell their story to Winnie about what had happened to them and that they decided to isolate themselves from other people. Winnie was the first person to discover them. Living with the Tucks, she enjoys their easygoing way of life, but also forms a crush on seventeen-year-old Jesse, who attempts to persuade Winnie to join them when she becomes his age by drinking from the magic spring. But Angus, Jesse’s dad, tells her that she shouldn’t. Soon, a man in a yellow suit discovers their secret. Mae does something that gets her put in jail but also doesn’t let the man in yellow tell their secret. I have to admit that I was waiting for something more major to happen in the plot line, because nothing that big really does happen. It’s easy to read and would appeal to both boys and girls. I think the book is beautifully written and is still a story that I will never forget.
