The Amulet of Samarkland – Johnathan Stroud
This book is the first in the series, The Bartimaeus Trilogy. This book is about a young boy named Nathaniel, who is thrust into a world of magic and sorcery when his parents abandon him. He trains under his master Mr. Underwood, who is very strict. One day at a magician’s party somebody named Simon Lovelace embarrassed him. Nathaniel wants to get revenge by learning magic beyond his age and ability to summon a djinni (a demon) to steal Lovelace’s most prized possession, The Amulet of Samarkand. This is a book in two point of views from Nathaniel’s and his djinni’s point of view. This book would be good for girls and boys, but only if you like fantasy books. I would give this a Snickers candy bar rating because it isn’t that hard to read and it has a lot of good vocabulary in it.
