Jack Sparrow-The Coming Storm By:Rob Kidd

Jack Sparrow The Coming Storm is about a boy named Jack. Jack was a pirate himself and a teenager. In the book they have lots of adventures and I’m going to tell you some of them. In the begining of the book the only thing Jack really wants to do is find the sword of Cortes. So he tries. The sword has the most power ever and you can do practically anything with it. On his way he runs into a girl named Arabella and Jack tells her that he is going to try to find the sword of cortes. Arabella was shocked. She could not believe he was going to do that. Since Arabella knew that that was really dangerous she asked him if she could go with her since she was a pirate herself. Jack didn’t want to be caught dead with a girl, but he tought he might need help. Later on in the book while they got their ship ready, there was a boy coming their way he saw them getting ready and he wanted to go with them Jack let him. His name was Fitzwilliam or Fitz for short. He was dressed up all nice with new clothing and very expensive materials. Their ship was the “Buccaneer.” When they were of and ready to sail they started their long journey. In the middle of sailing there there was a terrible storm and they almost got blown away! When they were tired enough they almost gave up but then they saw and island. They were very exited to see that when they got to the island they found two people, they were bays and they were nice. Their names were Tuman and Jean. Jack thought he would never find the Sword of Cortes. He asked Jean and Tumen and Jack expected the answer of a island very far away from were they were. Then they said this is the island. Jack could not believe what he had said. In a couple of days they went to go look for the Sword of Cortes. They found a lot of skulls and weird clues leading to the sword. They found a key along the way and brought it with them thinking it was important. When they came to a hallow place under the King’s bed the king had ruled a long time ago. Jack lifted up the bed and the key was useful afterall. There was a lock blocking the hallow room. Jack opened the room inside and all of the crew looked inside they were all amazed. If you want to find out if it was the Sword of Cortes or if it was something else exiting. To find out YOU have to read the book Jack Sparrow The Coming Storm. I think I would rate this book a 10 out of 10!

Thora- Jillian Johnsan

Thora isn’t your normal girl-she has purple scales on her feet and a blowhole on her head. Yes, she’s half mermaid and half human.

Her gorgeous mermaid mother, Halla, married a man named Thor. But Thor disappeared before Thora could be born. So, Thora stays in a boat called the Loki, and there is a hole at the bottom for Halla to periodically check on Thora, since Halla has to be in water of course. The legend says “a half mermaid child must live 10 yrs. on land and 10 yrs. in water to be free”.A man named Mr. Walters discovers the baby Thora in the Loki and helped Halla raise Thora- he was practically her father. But when it was time for Mr. Walters to take Thora to live her 10 years on land things start to fall apart. Frooty de Mare, a snobby, rich man that wants to own the Loki is trying to get back at Thora to get the Loki. He owns many hotels and shops, and he wants the Loki just to be able to say he owns everything in Grimli. Meanwhile, Mr. Walters has to go across the world to the funeral for his brother. Since Thora is old enough, she will be left at Grimli for that short time. But when Frooty de Mare makes a new cinema with a “big surprise” on the opening night, Thora and her friends know something’s up. Holly de Mare, Thora’s bff, tries to get back Thora’s beautiful mermaid mother from Frooty de Mare. He captured her and put her in a tank as the “big surprise”.

Will Thora and Holly be able to get back Halla? Can Thora live the legend to be free? Read the book to find out!

Diary Of A Whimpy Kid #2 Rodrick Rules- Jeff Kinney

This book is about a boy named Greg who is in middle school. Greg has a wacky life because of his brother Rodrick. For example his brother Rodrick locked him into the girls bathroom in his grandfather’ s condo. Another wacky thing that happened was when Greg’s parents went out of town Rodrick through a party for all of his friends. Also there was a time when Greg joined the swim team and Greg hated it. The pool was always cold. However Greg found a way to get around it: every time the swim class started, Greg would ask his coach if he could go to the restroom and the coach would say yes. Then Greg would go to the restroom and stay there until the class was over. If you want to know if there are any more crazy situations you are going to have to read the book Diary of a Whimpy Kid#2 Rodrick Rules. I think this book would appeal to boys and girls because it is a humorous book.

The Boy Next Door – Laura Dower

Have you ever read a book about how friends get along? The book, The Boy Next Door, by Laura Dower, is about how Taryn and Jeff’s friendship changes when they get to middles school. Things change in middle school because Taryn starts to hang out with girls more and Jeff starts to hang out with boys more. The main characters of the book are Taryn and Jeff. This book is about how friends can get along well and sometimes don’t get along so well. One of my favorite parts in the book is when there is an awesome carnival at school and Taryn is the carnival crew leader. I like this part of the book because there are a lot of crazy things happening. For example, the school’s principal wore swim trunks, a Hawaiian shirt, and lei to the carnival. The book might teach some people a lesson about friendship. I would give this book 7 out of 10. I would give this book that rating because it grabbed me but it was not my favorite book. I would recommend this book to girls because Taryn has a little crush on a boy and there is other girly stuff like wearing make-up. I don’t think boys would really enjoy reading the book. This book’s grade level is probably 3rd grade and up and there are 158 pages. The chapters switch from Taryn’s point of view to Jeff’s point of view, which is really interesting in a good way. This is the Candy Apple Book series so if you are interested in other books like this just go to a library or to a book store and get other Candy Apple Books. This was a GOOD book!

Shadow Horse- Alison Hart

In the book Shadow Horse by Alison Hart it tells the story of a girl named Jasmine Schuler who is accused guilty, by a man named Hugh Robicheaux the real killer, of killing a horse named Whirlwind, a  champion horse she loved.  She is sent to Second Chance Farm for forty-five days in foster care and under probation.  The owner of the farm is Miss Hahn.  She meets a boy named Chase there and at first she couldn’t stand him, but then she started to get a crush on him.  They go to a killers auction where people buy loads of horses and bring them to slaughter houses.  The meat is then shipped to Europe and Japan where horse steak is considered a delicacy.  They go there to save horses from suffering, but if they are really sick they buy them just to put them to sleep.  Jasmine (aka Jas) saw a horse and knew his disease, so they bought him and Jas thought he looked like a horse that she had before -Aladdin-on High Meadows Farm, the farm that she and her grandfather worked on.  When they got back, Jas decided to name her new horse Shadow.  Later Dr. Danvers-Hugh’s old vet- found out there was a microchip in Shadow’s neck.  They use microchips to tell horses apart.  But then Jas actually found out that “Shadow” really was Aladdin and that Hugh had used a ringer for Aladdin and  Whirlwind, although we don’t know how he got the same microchip into both horses’ necks.  A ringer is a replacement that looks exactly the same.  Now that she got the proof to prove Hugh guilty, all she had to do is find the real Whirlwind… This is a FANTASTIC mystery book and I would recommend this book to all genders.

When T.P. wakes up he is very suspicious because he finds many different sounds in the morning. T.P. sees that his kid owner Jeff is going to the door and answers it. T.P. finds that there is a big box in the middle of the porch and the box was making very different noises. Jeff comes in with the box and opens it. Out comes a dark brown little puppy bouncing all over the place. T.P. was amazed and so was Jeff’s parent. Jeff and his parents only agreed to have the little pup until their owners were back from vacation. The owner was Jeff’s friend. They named the little puppy Mocha. Mocha drives T.P. CRAZY because Mocha keeps on asking questions. T.P. set a rule that Mocha can only ask 3 questions at a time. Everything was going fine until Jeff, Jeff’s friend (Mocha’s owner), Mocha, and T.P. went for a walk. T.P. went by the lake for a walk until he found a goose. All of a sudden the goose starts attacking T.P. because he was by the gooses eggs. T.P. manages to escape and he goes by Jeff, Jeff’s friend, and Mocha. They all go by where T.P. was attacked and Jeff’s friend throws a ball in the lake. T.P. was shocked and Mocha goes running after it. The same goose that attacked T.P., attacked Mocha! The goose was starting to drown Mocha. Will Mocha survive? Will T.P. save Mocha? If you want to know, read this book, Goosed. I think this book will appeal to boys and girls. The book is only 125 pages long and did not take me long to read. This books vocabulary is not hard either. This book is fantasy because the animals talk. Princess Academy by Shannon Hale is about a girl named Miri who goes to an academy to prepare for the life of royalty because her town, Mount Eskel is the home of the next princess.  In the beginning, soldiers come to take all the girls who are younger than the prince to the academy because no one older than the prince can marry him.  Miri does not want to go, but the soldiers have direct orders from the king, so Miri doesn’t have a choice.  Once the girls get to the academy a lady is standing there to greet them and said, “I will be teaching you all here at the Princess Academy and you can call me Tutor Olana.”  A few days before it was time to go visit their families, Miri said something to Olana that got her very angry.  For punishment, Olana didn’t allow anyone to go back to the village and then everyone hated Miri.  No one talked or played with Miri because that was their only chance to see their family before winter.  While the girls went out for recess Miri stayed in and started to read some of Olana’s books.  Miri found one that was interesting and took it to her dorm to read. After a couple of weeks, a girl named Britta started to talk to Miri and they became best friends.  A few weeks later Olana said to the girls that she will quiz them on what they have learned and the ones who pass will be able to go to visit their family.  After the quiz Olana said, “You all did horrible, but two girls passed, Miri and Katar.”  Katar headed to the door but Miri stayed and said, ”That isn’t fair!  Everyone should be able to go and visit their family.”  Then Olana got really frustrated and said, ”One more word and you will have to stay with the others.”  Miri thought of an idea and said, “Rabbits run!”  Everyone knew what Miri was saying accept Britta because she wasn’t born at Mount Eskel.  Miri’s idea was from a game they played when they were kids and it was called Wolf and Rabbit.  All the girls made it safe to the village, but Olana said, “Don’t even think about coming back.”  The parents were so happy to see their daughters.  A festival took place on the day they returned, full of dancing and lots of fun.  Will Olana let the girls return to Princess Academy?  Who will be the princess?  Find out by reading the book Princess Academy by Shannon Hale.

The Lottie Project by Jacqueline Wilson

This is a fun book I read. Charlotte’s (she’d rather be called Charlie, so that’s what I’ll say) world is being turned upside. Her new teacher is beyond bad,( she calls Charlie Charlotte-GROSS!), she’s forced to sit by the obnoxious teacher’s pet, Jamie, her single mother, who she calls Joe, can’t keep up with their apartment bills, and they’re assinged a victorian times project. Let me slow down. Jo, Charlie’s mom is left without a job, so she starts working for a family, Mark, and his son Robin. She takes care of Robin and brings him to their apartment when his dad, Mark, is busy. Weird though… whenever Jo goes to pick-up Robin Jo dresses up, you know, perfume, heels, skirt, her special sweater. Charlie thinks she kind of likes Mark…ooooh!
At school, Charlie decides to make a diary for her victorian times project. Part of this book is the diary. In the diary there is a girl named Lottie, she work as a maid to make money, for a very strict master I must say!
Later on, Mark invites Jo and Charlie to go with Robin and him to the amusement park. Charlie reluctantly goes with Jo (and Jo is of course very happy). They have a nice time. However Jo and Mark go on some lovey-dovey ride while Jo and Robin just watch. But what was that? Did Jo and Mark just kiss? Charlie wanted to puek. But she started to tell Robin that his father doesn’t love him, and he will get rid of him. This is not true, of course. But Robin is young and shy, and this startled him. Later on in the night, when Mark was going to say goodnight to Robin. He was gone. He ran away. Charlie felt terribly guitly for telling him those bad things, causing him to run away. Everyone was looking for him, including the cops.
What happens to Robin, will he be found? Will Mark and Jo marry? Read this book to find out!

Soccer Duel – Matt Christopher

In this book the main characters are Renny Harding and Bryce McCormick. Renny plays for the Blue Hornets and Bryce plays or the Yellow Jackets. Renny and Bryce don’t like each other at first. The only reason Bryce doesn’t like Renny is because The Blue Hornets beat the Yellow Jackets. The Yellow Jackets were undefeated until the Blue Hornets beat them. If the Yellow Jackets beat the Orange Crush then they would go on to the play – offs. What Renny and Bryce don’t notice is that Coach Harrelson is watching players play for next year. Coach Harrelson is the  soccer coach for Renny’s and Bryce’s highschool.  He  is scouting for players.  Turk Walters plays for the Orange Crush and Turk Walters fouls people a lot  on purpose.  Bryce goes up to Turk and asks him if he would foul Renny in the game on Saturday. If you want to know if Renny gets hurt by Turk or if Renny’s team goes to the play offs and beats the Yellow Jackets again, or if Renny or Bryce makes the highschool soccer team next year, read Soccer Duel by Matt Christopher.

This is a fun book filled with romance and adventure you won’t want to put down. It’s about Mr. Penderwick and his four daughters, Skye, A Math Wiz, Jane, The Romantic Writer, Rosalind, The Oldest and Wisest, and lastly, the youngest, Batty-and she’s just adorable! They go on a family vacation in a rented cottage at Arundel, home of snooty Mrs. Tifton, her son, Jeffery, and her boyfriend, Dexter. Now, let me get something straight about Mrs. Tifton. She is rude, judgmental, lives in a gorgeous mansion complete with large gardens, has such a short liesh on Jeffery (it’s already been planned he has to go to military school. He doesn’t want to go, and he hates the way his mother acts), and Dexter…not the warmest of fellows, meaning he is perfect for Mrs. Tifton! Ha ha! Later on, the girls become great friends with Jeffery, Mrs. Tifton’s son, and Cagney, who takes care of Mrs. Tifton’ s gardens so she could win the garden contest. However, Mrs. Tifton doesn’t believe that the Penderwick girls are the “right people” for Jeffery to hang out with, same with Dexter. The girls do tend to run around and get themselves into trouble, but they are sweet and kind. Mrs. Tifton then goes too far everytime she spots the children playing her garden by calling the girls names, insulting the Penderwick family, and making fun of their mother that passed away. Mrs. Tifton has gotten furious at the innocent girls and wants them out. How awful! The big shock in the book was when the girls are at Jeffery’s birthday party. Mrs. Tifton is being her usual rude self, except she had Dexter there to silently cheer her on. Great. But then, the girls and Jeffery start playing outside when Mrs. Tifton comes outside with Dexter and starts dancing. The children weren’t spotted yet, so they listened in on their conversation. Mrs. Tifton was asking if they should get married, because “when a child’s mother is happy the child is” (NOT!) and they planned to send him off. How cruel! What’s going to happen to Jeffery? Will his mom marry Dexter? Will Jeffery be sent off? To know these juicy secrets, read The Penderwicks. I enjoyed this book a lot, which means it’s very good since I don’t like reading! Boy or girl, you’ll love it.

Niagra Falls or does it?

This book is about a boy named Hank, who has two friends, Frankie and Ashley. It’s the first day of fourth grade and the class had to write a 5 paragraph essay. Hank doesn’t want to write the essay so he does a living essay of Niagara Falls, his vacation place. Hank thinks that having a living essay is a good thing, but he is completely wrong! The tube that had the water running through to make a water fall was made of cardboard, which got soggy and exploded. I Loved this book, it was amazing!!!! I would recommend this book to all ages (except for really really young kids). It is a very funny book!

These Happy Golden Years by: Laura Ingalls Wilder

The book These Happy Golden Years by Laura Ingalls Wilder is a very good book, but only if you are into Historical Fiction. In this book Laura is going to go to “teacher’s examinations” hoping to get a good school to teach. She soon takes the examinations and thinks that they are very hard. In the mail the next day she gets her results and finds out that she got a good school! Laura soon stays with Mrs. Brewster’s because her school is so far away. Pa and Laura are soon on there way to Mrs. Brewster’s. The next day Laura is off to her first day at school teaching. When she gets there she finds out that she as 5 students some good, some bad. She gets through a whole month of teaching, and decides to use her money to get Mary, who is off at college home for the summer. When Laura and Mary come home, the Wilder family brings back a lot of their family traditions- like Pa playing the fiddle while he sings along, and all the girls and young women cleaning the house together. Once Laura was home she was playing with Almonzo a lot more often. I do not want to say anything else because that would give away part of the book, but this is for sure a book that I would recommend for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders!

Haunted Animals True Ghost Stories – Allan Zullo

Haunted Animals is a great, but kind of a scary book. There are a lot of chapters about different animals. This book is 128 pages. One of my favorite chapters was Rescue from the Beyond. What happened was there is a girl named Megan and her dog named Hamlet. Hamlet loved Megan so much that he would put his life on the line for her. They live in a neighborhood that is not very nice. One time someone broke into Megan’s house and the dog fought off the bad guys.  I would love to have that dog. There is one more thing that happened at the end of the book. If you want to find out, then you should read the book Haunted Animals by Allan Zullo.
