The Sixter’s Grimm (book 6) – Michael Buckley

The book I read was the sisters Grimm book six. In this book Mr. Canis aka The Big Bad Wolf gets put in jail for the murder of Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother. This happened years ago! but they wanted him in jail. So, it is up to Sabrina, Daphne, Puck, and Granny Relda to defend him in court. In order to do this they need a lawyer. And they know exactly who to get- Robin Hood and his band of merrymen. Now, Robin Hood and Little John think this court is not fair, especially with the Mad Hatter from Alice and Wonderland, as the Judge. Bluebeard who is accusing the wolf is really mean and all he wants to do is flirt with Snow White! Well,as I was saying the judge never lets Robin and his side rest their Case. He always lets Bluebeard talk and then goes on coffee breaks! So, Bluebeard likes to bring in witnesses such as the three little pigs , the woodcutter, and Red Riding Hood herself! Each on of the witnesses points out the Wolf and so in conclusion to the witnesses and their remarks the Wolf is sentenced to hang! If you want to find out if the wolf is killed or if he survives, read the sisters Grimm book six.

Spirit Walker – Michelle Paver

This book is the second book in the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series. This book is about a boy named Torak that lives in a forest during the ancient times. Torak has been through many adventures and tragedies such as when his mother died when he was a baby and when his father died by being attacked by a bear. Torak has also learned many secrets about himself like how he is the listener and how he can talk to wolves.  Torak was living in the Raven clan with his friend Renn, when the leader of the clan, Fin-Kedinn, told everybody about a terrible sickness that had infected the clans and the forest. Everybody was terrified when they heard this news. This sickness caused people to kill and be very, very crazy.  Everyone knew that only Torak could find the cure to the sickness and save all of the clans in the forest. This book is about Torak fights monsters, demons, whales, and even mages to find the cure for the sickness. He will have to go all the way to the sea with the seal clan to find the cure. On this adventure Torak will learn secrets about himself and his father that will change his life forever.  I think this book will appeal to boys and girls of all ages.  I also think that any reader that likes adventures and action-packed books will love this series.  It is 356 pages long and not that difficult to read. I think you will love this book and I also think the author of this series is brilliant and should continue to write books.  I really, really recommend you read this series.  I know I will continue.

The Mother Daughter Book Club By:Heather Vogel Frederick

The first thing that I have to say about “The Mother Daughter Book Club” by Heather Vogel Frederick, is that it is one of the best books I have ever read. “The Mother Daughter Book Club” is a realistic story about four girls forced to join once a month for a book club their mothers (and in Cassidy’s case, father) started. Megan is a mean and popular girl in the Fab Four at school. Emma is a girl who gets made fun of, and has read practically every book ever written. Cassidy is a tomboy-ish girl who is a misfit in her family with her model mother and sister. Jess is a shy girl who misses her mother who got an acting job in New York, a travel on a train away from Concord Massachusetts, where the girls live. In the book club, they read Little Women. The book helps them through the drama of sixth grade, between changes in friendship, and stolen journals. This book is wonderful, and I absolutelyloved it. It is worth eight points, and there is a second book called Much Ado About Anne. The Mother Daughter Book Club changes points of view, between the four girls, which I think makes the book really interesting. Out of ten, ten being the best, I would absolutely give this book a ten.

Will the girls become friends? Will the book club continue? Or will everything crash down? Find out by reading the fantastic book “The Mother Daughter Book Club” by Heather Vogel Frederick.

The Diamond in the Window-Jane Langton

The Diamond in the Window, by Jane Langton, is about a brother and a sister who live in the strangest house in their neighborhood. Their parents have died, so they are living with their aunt and uncle. One day, while they are exploring their house, they find two mysterious beds, all made up, in the attic. They seem to be just the right size for two little children just like them…….

When the children ask their aunt what the beds are there for, she tells them the tragic story of their other aunt and uncle, a disappearance, and the love between a man and a woman. That is when the children decide that they want to sleep in the room in the attic. When they are about to go to bed, they discover a strange poem on the window. They then embark on the most exciting and dangerous adventure of their lives to find their missing aunt and uncle, and to bring back the lover of their aunt Lily.

I think girls would like this book more than boys because it has a lot of romance in it, but boys would enjoy all the action in it.

Daughter of China – Meihong Xu

Daughter of China by Meihong Xu is about a girl who goes through an adventure to escape her country.

Daughter of China is like a version of Pocahontas. The girl, Meihong Xu, meets a man from a different country that comes to China. Meihong soons falls in love with this man. BUT! Or will she leave her lover and stay in China? You have to read Daughter of China to find out her choice!

I LOVED THIS BOOK! I really can relate to it because, like Meihong, I am Chinese. I knew what it was like to live in China back then. My parents had told me many stories of their childhood. Escaping from their home to find a better place.

I’d give this book a 10 out of 10, and I’d recommend this book to girls mostly. Daughter of China is a book about love, betrayal, and sacrifice.

Magic by the Lake-Edward Eager

The book Magic by the Lake, by Edward Eager, is about four children named Martha, Mark, Jane, and Katherine living by a lake during summer break. In the beginning of the book the 4 children, mother, and uncle arrive at the lake and get settled in. After they got settled in the cabin that they were staying at during summer break, they were very EXCITED about how they were going to spend their time at the lake.  When they first went swimming they saw a turtle who told them the lake was MAGIC, which I thought was very cool! The thing is that they had to have some part of their body touching the water to have the magic work for them.  So that meant that the kids got to make wishes by the lake everyday. That’s what happened in the beginning of the book. In the middle of the book they were wishing for cool things. An example of one wish that two of the girls made was that they could become teenagers so that they could dance with these two boys. I thought that was pretty cool that they got to make wishes everyday no matter what. At the end of the book they wished that they could find a treasure on an island to help their uncle who was running the book store for the summer. The kids tried to get a treasure so their uncle could keep the business running. To find out if the kids find the treasure read the book Magic by the Lake by Edward Eager. I would rate this book an 8 out of 10 because of all the adventures that the kids’ wishes gave them. I hope that you enjoy the book as much as I did.

I really loved this book. It had an extremely high-level vocabulary so, whenever I read, I was in front of my computer with an online dictionary open so I could look up words I didn’t understand. I was really addicted to the book and it was inevitable from me. I recommend it to both boys and girls. It was a short read for me. Even though it was really long it didn’t take me that long to read it because it was really good. It consists of 782 pages, is historical fiction, and is worth 52 whole points!
